What It's Like to be a Female Chiropractor

I think i get this question from every patient at one point or another during our regular visits. It has made be a little curious as to why it is such a popular topic of conversation and is why I am making this my first blog post.

Being a female chiropractor has meant a lot of things to me at different points in my life but as of late it has given me a sense accomplishment after being in this practice for almost 28 years. I have to say, I have never felt that I was at a disadvantage by being a woman in the practice. In fact, knowing that being a female makes me a minority (25%) in my field gives a little extra boost of self esteem and makes me feel kind of cool (my son said to be honest there).

Back when my children were in elementary and middle school (I won't say how long ago that was) being a female chiropractor actually gave me a sense of advantage over other chiropractors. The reason I felt that way is because I have so many families come into my office together and being a mom has given me the know-how on communicating with children with a dynamic that my patients and their kids can relate to. It's true my schooling has prepped me to care for people of all ages, but when a kid walks through my door that is the same age as one of my 4 beautiful children, you just get an instant mother-like connection, something school couldn't have possibly given me. Thinking about right now is actually putting a pretty big smile on my face. What a blessing to have had 4 children that I get to see grow and mature every day!

When I first started in the chiropractic field, knowing that the percentage of women in the field was more like 15% gave me some real confidence that I was a kick-butt chiropractor and was actually helping blaze a trail for more women to join the force (yes the rumors are true, all chiropractors communicate through a special frequency of telepathy known only to chiropractors). Eventually becoming the bread-winner for my family was  when I felt I had really made it as a chiropractor, a professional, and most importantly, a do-it-all mom.

I hope I've created a wonderful example for my children, my patients, other chiropractors, and help inspire others to join chiropractic care themselves. And hey, let’s get the percentage of women in the field up to 50%! Come on gals, let’s kick some booty!

I recently found this website for female chiropractors and I like it so far! I encourage other chiropractors to give it a look and tell me what you think! Here.

It is after hours at the office so I'm signing off for now, stay tuned to my blog as i slowly become the next great blogger of the decade 😊
